1988 Trimaran John Marples Custom Constant Camber Cruising
John Marples, Multihull Pioneer
John Marples was born in Heswall, England in 1944 during WW II. After immigrating to the US, he resided in N. New Jersey for his grade school years and then the family moved to S. California. Since then he has lived in N. California (twice), Washington state, Florida, and most recently, Maine in 2012.
"AVENGER" was custom built and sailed on her own bottom to Hawaii. She currently lives in Kaneohe Bay and lovingly cared for.
Is the boatbuilding method John Marples and Jim Brown called “Constant Camber,” which was used years ago to build slender hulls for trimarans and catamarans, still a viable method for boatbuilding? You bet it is.
As a matter of fact, it’s being used to construct a very large (and expensive) catamaran right now. So this methodology is a still a very serious option for anyone considering the building of a multihull … especially a trimaran!
